Blackheath by Anthony H. Page
Book DescriptionBlackheath, in the heart of the Black Country, only came into existence in the 1830s, as a variety of industries grew up in the area. Many of the people who lived here were quarrymen, miners and nailmakers. Life was not glamorous here: abject poverty was almost universal, and privation that is unknown and unimaginable today was commonplace. Despite or perhaps because of this, a strong sense of community has existed here since earliest times. Anthony Page's new book draws on previously unpublished photographs from a variety of sources, including family albums, to chronicle Blackheath's streets, people, industry and events.
