Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Chapters 1-25 by Ernest W. Nicholson
Book DescriptionDr Nicholson's commentary on Jeremiah will occupy two volumes. The first deals with chapters 1-25 and also contains an introduction. This introduction surveys the historical background to the life and prophetic ministry of the prophet during the last decades of the kingdom of Judah. In a further section the composition of the book is discussed and this is followed by an outline of its dominant religious ideas. The main body of the volume, in the style now established for this series, gives the text, divided into brief sections, and alternating with sections of commentary. The results of recent Old Testament scholarship and modern theological thought are conveyed to the student and the layman in simple language. Chapters 26 onwards will be covered in a second volume.

Deuteronomy and the Judaean Diaspora, Hardback (January 2014)
Ernest Nicholson draws together and expands a collection of his writings on Deuteronomy, presenting his challenging thesis that the book derived from thinkers and writers who lived among the Judaean exiles in Babylonia in the sixth century, and in significant ways represents a break with pre-exilic Israelite religion.
Pentateuch in the Twentieth Century, Paperback (November 2002)
This volume arises from the conviction that much in current research on the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Old Testament) needs to be subjected to rigorous scrutiny and that much is radically mistaken. Professor Nicholson argues that the work of Julius Wellhausen remains the securest basis for understanding the Pentateuch.
God and His People, Paperback (September 1988)
This book deals with God's covenant with Israel which the author believes is a theme central to the understanding of the Old Testament. He argues that the debate during the last century has revealed how crucial the covenant idea was in the development of what is distinctive in the faith of Israel.
