Boy Grows Up by Richard McCann

Book Description

Richard McCann's account of his childhood became a massive UK bestseller. In it he told the harrowing story of how he and his sisters were left motherless when the Yorkshire Ripper killed his first victim, Richard's mother Wilma McCann. "Just A Boy" was praised for its unflinching and unself-pitying account of a neglected childhood at the hands of an abusive father and uncaring authorities. "The Boy Grows Up" is an account of how Richard used the success of "Just A Boy" to try and save his sister, and of his attempts to make sense of his past whilst learning more about the effects of traumatic childhoods and loss.

Mother of Sorrows by Richard McCann Mother of Sorrows, Paperback / softback (June 2006)

"Mother of Sorrows" is a series of portraits of an American family living in the post-World War II suburbs of Washington, D.C.--a world of tract houses, fallout shelters, and sun-struck, treeless lawns, a world from which grief and sexuality have seemingly been banned.

Just a Boy by Richard McCann Just a Boy, Paperback (October 2004)

One October night in 1975, Richard, aged five, was alone with his sisters. Their mother didn't return home as she became the victim of a killer and from that moment their childhoods were destroyed. They lived a life without love or support, until one day in the late Nineties when Richard decided that no one was going to rescue their lives but him.

Ghost Letters by Richard McCann Ghost Letters, Paperback / softback (November 1994)

Fiercely passionate and deeply elegiac, Richard McCann's Ghost Letters chronicles the intersection of grief and desire. These are poems of memory, but they are made of the body--the consoling body; the wounded body; the sexual body, both loved and unloved.
