Building Red America by Thomas Byrne Edsall
Book DescriptionThis powerful examination of the present and future of American politics, by one of America's most distinguished political journalists, reveals how the Republican Party has gained a long-term institutional advantage that allows it to shrug off apparent setbacks like the 2006 elections. Building Red America takes us deeper than any previous book into the operations of the power brokers and issues that galvanize voters.

Out of Many, One, Paperback (June 2013)
Feared by conservatives and embraced by liberals when he entered the White House, Barack Obama has since been battered by criticism from both sides. Obama, the author argues, represents the values of a lesser-known third tradition in American political thought that defies the usual left-right categorization.
Age of Austerity, Paperback (October 2012)
Provides a sobering account of how pitched battles over scarce resources will increasingly define American politics in the coming years--and how citizens might avoid, or at least mitigate, the damage from these ideological and economic battles.
Chain Reaction, Paperback (September 1992)
Three volatile issues-race, rights, and taxes-drive American politics today.
New Politics of Inequality, Paperback (June 1985)» View all books by Thomas Byrne Edsall
"[Edsall] has written a cool analysis of trends in voting patterns, union power and the fortunes of the two major parties... This first-class book [is] the best single explanation of Reagan's success that I have encountered." -Robert Lekachman, Washington Post
