Canadian Mountain Place Names
The Rockies and Columbia Mountains
Canadian Mountain Place Names by Glen W. Boles
Book DescriptionThe towering peaks of the Canadian Rockies and Columbia Mountains rival the European Alps in fame. When traveling or climbing, hiking or skiing in these areas, have you ever wondered where the names of the peaks, rivers and lakes came from, or who named them and why? In Canadian Mountain Place Names, the authors have used their scope of knowledge and expertise, along with many outside sources, to compile an entertaining and informative treatise on the toponymy of this increasingly popular alpine region. Illustrated with Glen Boles' and Roger Laurilla's stunning photographs, as well as Boles' intricate line drawings, this book is a must-have for not only avid mountaineers, skiers and hikers, but also for locals and visitors with an interest in these regions. For the authors, this book has been a labour of love: for the mountains, as well as for all those who care about the mountains and are curioius about the names bestowed on these peaks and the geographic features surrounding them.

Author Biography - Glen W. Boles
Artist and photographer Glen Boles has climbed extensively throughout North America and Europe, but his first love is the Canadian Rockies, where he has summited over 450 peaks, often by difficult new routes. Many of his climbs were first ascents. Glen, who lives in Cochrane, Alberta, is the author of Glen Boles: My Mountain Album. Art & Photography of the Canadian Rockies & Columbia Mountains. Raised in Revelstoke, British Columbia, Roger Laurilla was exposed to the mountains at an early age. His images have been published in such magazines as Canadian Geographic, British Columbia Magazine, Ski Canada, Powder Magazine and Backcountry. Honoured by mountaineering societies at home and abroad, William Putnam is a highly decorated veteran of the 10th Mountain Division (Second World War). He has been frequenting the world's mountains and writing about mountaineering history for most of his life.
