Claire and Unicorn Happily Eve by B G Hennessy
Book DescriptionOnce Upon A Time, a little girl called Claire and her stuffed unicorn, Capricorn, were very fond of fairy tales. Every night Claire's father read them stories of frog princes and fairy princesses, and every night every character lived happily ever after. Then one evening, just as a story came to its close, Claire suddenly wondered: What, exactly, makes someone happy "forever?" It was a question to answer as she slept. So Claire hugged Capricorn, and together they drifted into a dreamland adventure....

US Kirkus Review » A little girl wonders what it is that makes her fairytale characters happy forever after and takes a magical nighttime journey with her stuffed unicorn to find the answer. Claire and Capricorn ask many of the people and animals they meet what makes them happy, but they never get the same answer. One princess just wants a soft, comfortable bed to sleep on (without a pea?), while another is looking for true love. A (frog) prince loves to eat flies; a fairy looks for peace, quiet and a good book. By the end of their journey the pair realizes that what makes a person happy ever after depends upon who that person is-different people like different things. Hennessy and Mitchell have teamed up to add richer detail to every child's imaginings of this world. Mitchell's watercolors are amazingly detailed and filled with charming details that every fairytale connoisseur will recognize. Readers will especially enjoy identifying their favorite characters. A good entry to the topic of diversity, and an extension to traditional fairy tale collections. (Picture book. 4-8) (Kirkus Reviews)

Book Review: Claire and Unicorn Happily Eve by B G Hennessy - Reviewed by Sheepcoate (11 Nov 2013)
Claire and Unicorn Happily Ever after is an interesting story and a cute one as that.
One night Claire was having her evening stories with her father and she asks him what makes a people live happily ever after, her Father asks her to dream about it and see what she comes up.
Hence come the dream sequence where Claire and her Unicorn go on a trip through a magical Kingdom and see Prince's, magical creatures in search of what makes them happy.
The story is a little long winded. There are some nice illustrations, but the book is somewhat drawn out.
