Color of Wildness by John Rohrbach
Book DescriptionEliot Porter's magnificent photographs convince the viewer to look more closely at the natural world and to appreciate its tremendous variety, complexity, delicacy and beauty. This publication, the first in-depth retrospective of Porter's work, reflects his intimate encounters with widely diverse ecosystems across the world and emphasizes the scientific and humanistic foundations of his art. Seen as a whole, Porter's work projects an eloquent call to respect and value nature and to take careful note of humanity's diverse interactions with it. That appreciation, his example suggests, helps us lead fuller lives in closer balance with the natural world around us.

Can striking landscape photography feature warehouses and parking garages? Are man-made structures as important as nature-made ones? This book includes essays that discusses aesthetics and techniques, examine the social and political contexts of landscape representation, and analyze works' continued influence on photography and environmentalism.

Barbara Crane's subjects are commonplace: a piece of driftwood, a cluster of wild mushrooms, a crowd of commuters rushing for the train. The resulting photographs, however, are far from ordinary. This book celebrates this Chicagoan's wide-ranging art with a collection of more than 250 color and black-and-white photographs.
