Color of Wildness by John Rohrbach
Book DescriptionEliot Porter's magnificent photographs convince the viewer to look more closely at the natural world and to appreciate its tremendous variety, complexity, delicacy and beauty. This publication, the first in-depth retrospective of Porter's work, reflects his intimate encounters with widely diverse ecosystems across the world and emphasizes the scientific and humanistic foundations of his art. Seen as a whole, Porter's work projects an eloquent call to respect and value nature and to take careful note of humanity's diverse interactions with it. That appreciation, his example suggests, helps us lead fuller lives in closer balance with the natural world around us.

Color, Hardback (September 2013)
Tracing the development of color photography from the first color photograph in 1851 to digital photography, this book describes photographers' initial rejection of color, their decades-long debates over what color brings to photography, and how their gradual acceptance of color released photography from its status as a second-tier art form.
