A Christian Feminist Approach to Medical Ethics
By (author) Margaret A. Farley
Compassionate Respect by Margaret A. Farley
Book DescriptionThis lecture addresses current tensions in medical ethics as it has developed in the past thirty years. Debates now rage about the importance of principles versus personal character, rights versus responsibilities, and individual autonomy versus concerns for the well being of patients. Moreover, the public nature of medical ethical problems, which are often addressed in the secular sphere, has tended to obscure the role of religious ethics within medical ethics. Margaret Farley proposes a new approach to all of these issues, an approach that takes account of women's experience, feminist ethics, and the potential contributions of religious traditions to problems encountered in the medical context. She includes considerations of particular issues such as decisions for death and requirements of justice in the effective worldwide distribution of medical care.

Personal Commitments, Paperback (April 2013)
Dr Farley explores how commitments, rooted in the story of God's love, are acts of free choice and love that yield a claim. Farley's reflections are also rooted in the concrete experiences of people who strive to be faithful to what they have claimed to love.
Just Love, Paperback (March 2008)
Proposes a framework for sexual ethics whereby justice is the criterion for all loving, including love that is related to sexual activity and relationships. This book provides historical and cross-cultural explorations, addresses the questions of embodiment, gender and sexuality, and delineates the justice framework for sexual ethics.

Physicians are increasingly wrestling with new moral choices. This work by theologian Paul Ramsey, first published 30 years ago, anticipated and addressed these moral and ethical issues. This second edition includes a new foreword and essays that should help to locate and interpret Ramsey.
