Cunninghame Graham by Prof. Cedric Watts
Book DescriptionR. B. Cunninghame Graham (1852-1936) was one of the most brilliant and mercurial characters of his day. Known as 'Don Roberto' and 'the Modern Don Quixote' because of his Spanish blood and impetuous life-style, and as 'the Uncrowned King of Scotland' because of his descent from King Robert II, he was a paradoxical man whose career was astonishingly varied. After an early period as an adventurer, when he worked as a cattle-rancher and horse-dealer in South America and Texas, he embarked on a stormy political career. He was the first socialist in Parliament, was gaoled after assailing the police at the Battle of Trafalgar Square on Bloody Sunday, 1887, later became the founder and president of the first Labour Party, and was eventually elected president of the Scottish National Party. Meanwhile he travelled in Morocco disguised as an Arab sheik and prospected for gold in Spain.

Books By Author Prof. Cedric Watts
Richard III, Paperback (August 2015)
Richard III is one of the finest of Shakespeare's historical dramas. Although it has a huge cast, Richard himself, gleefully wicked, charismatically Machiavellian, always dominates the play.
Henry IV, Paperback (June 2013)
This history play is lively in its interplay of political intrigue and boisterous comedy, subtle in the connections between high statecraft and low craftiness, exuberant in its range of vivid characters, and memorable in its thematic concern with honour, loyalty and the quest for power.
Richard II, Paperback (June 2013)
Richard II is one of Shakespeare's finest works: lucid, eloquent, and boldly structured. It can be seen as a tragedy, or a historical play, or a political drama, or as one part of a vast dramatic cycle which helped to generate England's national identity.
Connell Guide to Thomas Hardy's 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles', Paperback (June 2012)» View all books by Prof. Cedric Watts
Few novels have caused more controversy than Hardy's tragic tale of a fallen woman. This incisive study draws on the best of the novel's critics to show why Hardy's story has such power, and to explain the angry and uncompromising vision contained within its pages. This short guide is essential for anyone who wishes to understand Hardy's fiction.
