Ford Madox Brown by Julian Treuherz Ford Madox Brown, Hardback (September 2011)

Ford Madox Brown had already pioneered a style of painting which came to be known as Pre-Raphaelite before the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded in 1848. His beautifully observed landscapes anticipated the open-air effects of the Impressionists. This title provides a general introduction to Brown's art based on fresh research.

Railway by Julian Treuherz Railway, Hardback (April 2008)

Steam locomotives gripped the imagination when they first appeared in nineteenth-century Europe and America. Aboard these great machines, passengers travelled at faster speeds than ever before. This work captures both the fear and excitement of early train travel as it probes the artistic response to steam locomotion within its social setting.

Reviews

UK Kirkus Review » What do you do with somebody who, like me, has always declared that she does not like the Pre-Raphaelites, expecially not Rossetti? There is an easy answer: you lead the non-Rossetti-liker to this book, which accompanies an exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. It is guaranteed to dispel misconceptions, to illuminate, to delight, even to make one feel ashamed (and incredulous) at having missed so much that is beautiful and fresh. it can be deduced that I myself found the book a revelation, and one for which I am extremely grateful. For the first time I am aware of really seeing what Rossetti was about, what a profound and innovative vision he had, how subtly and skillfully he teaches us to look and to experience. The essays are written in clear, elegant, persuasive prose and the illustrations implement the message of the text. If you already respond to this artist, this will increase your pleasure. If you have had a blind-spot, as I have had, then open your eyes and prepare for conversion.(Kirkus UK)
