Differences that Matter by Sara Ahmed
Book DescriptionDifferences That Matter challenges existing ways of theorising the relationship between feminism and postmodernism which ask 'is or should feminism be modern or postmodern?' Sara Ahmed suggests that postmodernism has been allowed to dictate feminist debates and calls instead for feminist theorists to speak (back) to postmodernism, rather than simply speak on (their relationship to) it. Such a 'speaking back' involves a refusal to position postmodernism as a generalisable condition of the world and requires closer readings of what postmodernism is actually 'doing' in a variety of disciplinary contexts. Sara Ahmed hence examines constructions of postmodernism in relation to rights, ethics, subjectivity, authorship, meta-fiction and film.

Diverting the Flow, Hardback (August 2015)
South Asia's significant water resources are unevenly distributed, with about a fifth of the population lacking adequate access. By revealing the extent to which water access depends on power relations and politics, this book offers fresh perspectives on the relationship between gender equity and water issues in South Asia.
Cultural Politics of Emotion, Paperback (April 2014)
Emotions work to define who we are as well as shape what we do and this is no more powerfully at play than in the world of politics. The author considers how emotions keep us invested in relationships of power, and also shows how this use of emotion could be crucial to feminist and queer political movements.
On Being Included, Paperback (March 2012)
Argues that a commitment to diversity is frequently substituted for a commitment to actual change. This title traces the work that diversity does, examining how the term is used and the way it serves to make questions about racism seem impertinent.
Queer Phenomenology, Paperback (December 2006)» View all books by Sara Ahmed
Cultural theorist Sara Ahmed demonstrates how queer studies can put phenomenology to productive use by analyzing what it means for bodies to be "oriented" in space and time.
