Drinking, Conduct Disorder and Social Change by Stephen J. Kunitz
Book DescriptionBased on interviews with more than a thousand Navajo Indian men and women, this book examines the associations between childhood experiences and behaviour and the development of alcohol dependence in adulthood. Because Navajo life has changed markedly over the past two generations, it also examines the role of urbanization and universal school in reshaping Navajo youth and considers the implications for changing patterns of alcohol use in adulthood. In addition the book explores a wide range of timely issues such as domestic violence, factors associated with resistance to alcohol abuse as well as remission and recovery, the treatment and prevention of alcohol dependence, and the implications of pursuing either population-based preventive interventions or interventions focused on high risk individuals or groups.

Regional Cultures and Mortality in America, Hardback (December 2014)
Examines how state government policies and their historic beginnings have present-day effects on their residents' political lives and on population health, especially for marginalized groups.
Health of Populations, Hardback (October 2006)
Describes how ideas about the costs and benefits of industrialisation, and causes of disease, have been used from different ideological persuasions to explain the health of populations. This book focuses on ideas that have been influential in debates: factors such as standard of living, community and its loss, inequality, and globalisation.
Disease and Social Diversity, Paperback (February 1996)
This book is based upon a series of historical and contemporary comparative studies of the disease experience of indigenous peoples in North America and Oceania as a result of their contact with, and domination by, Europeans. It argues that this experience, while similar in many ways, has been highly variable.
Drinking Careers, Hardback (November 1994)» View all books by Stephen J. Kunitz
This text details the follow up study of alcohol use amongst three groups of Native Americans first interviewed in 1966. The authors found that there is a considerable diversity in patterns of alcohol use among both women and men.
