Elements of Green's Functions and Propagation by G. Barton
Book DescriptionThis text takes the student with a background in the standard undergraduate courses in physics and mathematics towards the skills and insights needed for graduate work in theoretical physics. The author uses Green's functions to explore the physics of potentials, diffusion and waves. These are important phenomena of classical physics in their own right, but this study of the partial differential equations describing them also prepares the student for more advanced applications in many-body physics and field theory. Calculations are carried through in enough detail for self-study, and case histories illustrate the interplay between physical insight and mathematical formalism. The aim is to develop the habit of dialogue with the equations and the craftsmanship this fosters in tackling problems.

Books By Author G. Barton
Introduction to the Relativity Principle, Hardback (July 1999)
Relativity forms a core part of the physics curriculum. This introductory book offers a concise treatment of relativity, starting with Galilean transformations and the uses of relativity in Newtonian mechanics.
Physics of Chance, Hardback (November 1992)
This is an introduction to the ideas of indeterminacy that are central to much of modern physics and have overthrown the "clockwork universe" conceptions of earlier centuries.
Quantum and Statistical Field Theory, Paperback (March 1992)» View all books by G. Barton
Emphasizes the underlying unity of the concepts and methods used in both phase transitions and elementary particle physics, and presents topics such as the pertubative expansion, Feynman diagrams, renormalization, and the renormalization group.
