The early CIA days... When young Jack Ryan joins the CIA as an analyst he is thrust into a world of political intrigue and conspiracy. Stationed in England, he quickly finds himself debriefing a Soviet defector with an extraordinary story to tell: senior Russian officials are plotting to assassinate Pope John Paul II.
UK Kirkus Review » I was introduced to Clancy via The Hunt for Red October which I loved. I did think he'd lost his way a little with many of the intervening Jack Ryan books, but he's back on track with this one. Ryan is now president and the USA is under attack from terrorists armed with biological weapons. Mix them up with a right-wing nutter or two, marital problems and some political back stabbing, and you've got a recipe for a great story. One which, rather worryingly, is probably nearer to fact than fiction. Review by Flight Lieutenant John Nichol, author of 'Vanishing Point' and 'Exclusion Zone' (Kirkus UK)
