This book is fast, exciting and thoroughly entertaining. Higgins grabs the reader’s attention from the start by presenting another world. Japan during the time of the samurai is presented as both mysterious and dangerous. This is an adventure novel filled with spies and warriors, a fight between good and bad. The story is told through the eyes of a young boy protagonist. He is especially gifted and has the power to see through the eyes of animals. Though we have seen characters fitting this mold before, this book does it well and with originality. There is a particular attention to detail that helps paint the picture of this distant place and culture. The characters too have a sense of mystique, each with their own special powers. Higgins maintains the reader’s interest with fast action-packed scenes, and some particularly well presented fight sequences. This book brings these various elements together brilliantly, creating a well-packaged...
Author Biography - Simon Higgins
Simon Higgins has worked as a disc jockey, marketing manager and monster in a sideshow ghost train. He also spent a decade in law enforcement as a police officer, a prosecutor and a licensed private investigator, where his cases ranged from murders to alleged UFO incidents. Later in life he returned full-time to his first love - writing. Simon has travelled in Japan, China and the Philippines and now lives in northern New South Wales with his wife and two teenage children. He enjoys science fiction movies, collecting traditional Japanese art, and restoring the rainforest on his family's rural property.
