Fracture by Megan Miranda
By the time seventeen-year-old Delaney Maxwell is pulled out of the icy waters of a frozen lake, her heart has stopped beating. She is in a coma and officially dead. But Delaney pulls through. How? Doctors are mystified. Outwardly she has completely recovered. But Delaney knows something is very wrong. Pulled by sensations she can't control, she finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her brain predicting death or causing it? Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who lost his whole family in a car accident and emerged from a coma with the same powers as Delaney. At last she's found a kindred spirit who'll understand what she's going through. But Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature - or something much more frightening?

Book Review: Fracture by Megan Miranda - Reviewed by Larissa (02 May 2012) Dying is nothing like they say it will be. It's not peaceful and painless; it hurts and is scary as hell. But once a person is dead they are supposed to stay dead, there is no coming back after 11 minutes of death. So how then did she survive? There is no evidence of the brain injury she should have sustained being so long without oxygen, there is no evidence of anything being wrong with her, at least none that will show up on any tests. But she is different, and there is something wrong with her. Waking from a coma she should never have lived through, everything has changed. No one understands what's she's been through, what she's still going through, no one that is but Troy. Attractive, mysterious and a little bit dangerous, Troy knows all too well what it is she is going through having been through something similar himself. But the secrets he is keeping are more then just dangerous, if she's not careful they just may be the death... Book Review: Fracture by Megan Miranda - Reviewed by Brodie (02 Feb 2012) 11 minutes can change a life forever. Especially when you're deprived of oxygen and your heart stops beating. Delaney Maxwell should not be alive. She should not have survived those 11 minutes spent underwater when she slipped on a fragile sheet of ice. But somehow, by some miracle or bursting need for survival, she came back, defied science and lived. Megan brilliant explored the ramifications of this not only on Delaney, but every person in her life. From best-friend Decker, who fought desperately to save her, to her mother, who in the aftermath of the accident begins to wither away on the inside. Scarier for Delaney is a terrifying new ability to sense when a person is dying. And so enters a mysterious boy named Troy, who also shares her gift. A boy who will make her question life, death and whether taking a life is a kindness or murder. I don't now how Megan did it, but she rendered such a bond between the reader and protagonist. The... Book Review: Fracture by Megan Miranda - Reviewed by Shelleyrae (13 Jan 2012) Megan Miranda has made an impressive entry into the young adult genre with the debut of her first novel, Fracture. I picked it up intending to read a chapter or two before bed but devoured it in just a few hours. Having been revived after eleven minutes trapped under the ice, Delaney wakes from a coma with her faculties seemingly unscathed. The doctors are baffled, but Delaney is simply relieved until an itch starts in the middle of her brain and her fingers start twitching. Returning home is not the triumphant moment she expected, her parents are anxious and watchful, her relationship with her best friend, Decker, has indefinably altered and Delaney is confused by her sudden fascination with the dying. Troy Varga knows just how she feels but while Delaney's instincts are to try and prevent death, Troy believes he survived the crash that killed his parents and sister, to prevent suffering. The premise of Fracture is intriguing and Miranda...
