Germans Against Hitler by Hans Mommsen

Book Description

German resistance to Hitler is a central element of the history of Nazism. In this text, contemporary historian Hans Mommsen reveals the diversity of the political aims held by these "other Germans". He analyses the ideologies of the assassination plot of 20th July 1944, as well as those of the Kreisau Circle and the conservative, socialist, church and military oppositions. These resistance groups all endeavoured to find a viable alternative to Hitler and to achieve a moral renewal of politics and society - although many of them rejected democracy and had a sometimes ambivalent attitude towards the persecution of the Jews.

Germans Against Hitler by Hans Mommsen Germans Against Hitler, Paperback (November 2008)

Those Germans, such as Count Claus von Stauffenberg, who fought the Third Reich from within have often been mythologised as heroes in the fight against tyranny but the truth is far more complex. This book traces the history of the German resistance from the ascent of the Nazi party to the July 1944 attempted assassination of Hitler.

Third Reich Between Vision and Reality by Hans Mommsen Third Reich Between Vision and Reality, Paperback (March 2003)

Covering topics like the Viennese background to Hitler's career; the development of fascist tendencies amongst the German population during the Weimar period; and the nature of popular support for national socialism, this book makes accessible controversial arguments which have resulted from reassessments of Hitler's movement and his Nazi regime.
