Grothendieck Theory of Dessins D'Enfants by Leila Schneps
Book DescriptionDessins d'Enfants are combinatorial objects, namely drawings with vertices and edges on topological surfaces. Their interest lies in their relation with the set of algebraic curves defined over the closure of the rationals, and the corresponding action of the absolute Galois group on them. The study of this group via such realted combinatorial methods as its action on the Dessins and on certain fundamental groups of moduli spaces was initiated by Alexander Grothendieck in his unpublished Esquisse d'un Programme, and developed by many of the mathematicians who have contributed to this volume. The various articles here unite all of the basics of the subject as well as the most recent advances. Researchers in number theory, algebraic geometry or related areas of group theory will find much of interest in this book.

Books By Author Leila Schneps
Math on Trial, Hardback (March 2013)
In the wrong hands, math can be deadly. Mathematicians Schneps and Colmez tell the story of 10 trials, from the Dreyfus Affair to the Amanda Knox murder trial, in which mathematical arguments were used--and disastrously misused--as evidence.
Galois Groups and Fundamental Groups, Paperback (March 2011)
This book contains eight expository articles by well-known authors on the theory of Galois groups and fundamental groups.
Spectral Decomposition and Eisenstein Series, Paperback (July 2008)
A self-contained introduction to automorphic forms, and Eisenstein series and pseudo-series, proving some of Langlands' work at the intersection of number theory and group theory.
Hodge Theory and Complex Algebraic Geometry I: Volume 1, Paperback (December 2007)» View all books by Leila Schneps
The first of two volumes offering a modern introduction to Kaehlerian geometry and Hodge structure written for students.
