Growing Up in a Welsh Valley by Bronwen Hosie
Book DescriptionThis book tells the story of Dai Morrisey, the author's father, from the end of the First World War, when he was four years old, through his childhood years to a young adult leaving the mines and starting his own business mending radios. This book gets darker at the end, when Dai hears of a series of awful mining accidents that convince him to leave the industry. This book ends with one of its most successful images - Dai plays music to the whole street to advertise his business and walks out to see his parents dancing in the middle of the road - a beautiful picture to end the story.
