Description
Arranging the hit on Fabio was off tap, and Les knew it. And when you get Sydney's deadliest killer to do the hit, there's always a quid pro quo. So Les is off to Nimbin in NSW to help an old army mate of Eddie Salita's open a bar, the Double L. Ranch. Which suited Les since he had to take his friend Tony Nathan the surf photographer to the waxhead wedding of the year at Blueys Beach, and it was on the way. The waxhead wedding of the year turned into the ethnic brawl of the decade. However, Les found comfort in the arms of Janet the Gannet from the Forbidden Planet. In Nimbin, Les found himself working as a DJ for a nutter with a nightclub where dancing was prohibited. He also found racial tension, the Russian Spetsnaz and Norwegian backpackers. Add a drug overdose and, before Les knew it, he found himself in a firefight with a bunch of inbreds wanting to kill the bar owner. A fun town Nimbin wasn't. Robert G. Barrett's latest Les Norton adventure is non-stop action from go to whoa.

0 star rating by Boomert - High Noon in Nimbin by Robert G Barrett 11 Jan 2010
Those already familiar with the Les Norton novels of Robert G Barrett will know just what to expect from the big, redheaded Queenslander and his creator, the Bondi butcher turned bestselling novelist. For the uninitiated, Les Norton is perhaps best described as a sort of bogan James Bond. But where Bond served the crown, Les just looks out for Les. Norton thinks nothing of hitting a man when his back is turned, or indeed continuing the attack while his opponent is down. He calmly watches a man beaten unconscious with a lead pipe without feeling inclined to help, and quietly excuses himself from the room while a lecherous mate is attempting to molest the woman Les himself has just slept with. If this sounds like the plot of a particularly grim crime noir, you may be surprised to hear that Barrett is considered a humorist. The events described above are relayed in offhand, casual prose littered with bad puns and fart jokes. The sales figures attest that there is a huge market out there for these books, but I wouldn’t recommend this one to anyone who didn’t ask for it outright.
