Principles of Animal Locomotion by R.McNeill Alexander Principles of Animal Locomotion, Paperback (February 2006)

Provides an overview of how animals run, walk, jump, crawl, swim, soar, hover, and fly. This book introduces energetics and optimality as basic principles. It tackles each of the major modes by which animals move on land, in water, and through air. It explains the mechanisms involved and the physical and biological forces shaping those mechanisms.

Energy for Animal Life by R.McNeill Alexander Energy for Animal Life, Paperback (January 1999)

Addresses topics using examples from throughout the animal kingdom, looking for parallels that transcend taxonomy. This book is about how animals get energy, and how they use it, a central topic in our understanding of animal biology. It draws on examples from a range of animal species, and includes practical information on relevant experiments.

Optima for Animals by R.McNeill Alexander Optima for Animals, Paperback (November 1996)

Optimization theory is designed to find the best ways of doing things. This work shows how extraordinarily diverse branches of biology are illuminated by the powerful methods of optimization theory. It also explains the mathematics involved, with biology students in mind. It is also useful for professionals, ranging from teachers to researchers.

Dynamics of Dinosaurs by R.McNeill Alexander Dynamics of Dinosaurs, Paperback (March 1991)
