Kid by Michael Gow

Book Description

The play that launched Michael Gow's playwriting career returns to the stage. In blazing heat, a stolen Mini hurtles towards Sydney. Inside, three unstable teenagers from the country -- Snake, Aspro and Dean -- plan a future that will begin when they collect Aspro's accident compensation from the Department. Joined by Donald, an opera fanatic desperate for a change of scene, they travel to the city to take up residence in 'the largest block of flats in the Southern Hemisphere'. As bush fires rage on the edge of the city, they meet Desiree, a young girl from downstairs with apocalyptic predictions. Sparks fly. Tensions escalate. Twilight approaches...

Toy Symphony by Michael Gow Toy Symphony, Paperback (May 2008)

Roland Henning has writer's block. When he tries to explain the situation to a therapist, his story begins to tumble back and forth between his childhood in The Shire and his work as a playwright. At the root of it all is that a day in primary school which shattered his boyhood and plunged him headlong into the dizzy circus of life and art.

Fortunes of Richard Mahony by Michael Gow Fortunes of Richard Mahony, Paperback (October 2002)

An adaptation of Ethel Florence Lindesay Robertson's three-part novel of the same name. Born and educated in Melbourne, Ethel Robertson was one of Australia's first woman novelists, writing as Henry Handel Richardson.

Sweet Phoebe by Michael Gow Sweet Phoebe, Paperback (March 1994)

A superb dark comedy in which sensible priorities are forgotten, marriage is laid bare and a well adjusted suburban lifestyle lurches out of control (1 man, 1 woman).
