Koilawan by Edmund Melig Industan
Book DescriptionAre you ready to experience living in a remote village to introduce change to the tribal peoples? Are you prepared to give up almost all the conveniences in the modern world to bring the Good News to the unreached peoples? KOILAWAN: Letters and Poems of a Jungle Dad-Mom is a heartwarming and enlightening book of the author's life while living as a Christian worker among the Ata Manobo tribe in the Philippines. It also is an inspirational and informative book on how to live cross-culturally and introduce change, particularly Christianity, amongst the tribe. It is, therefore, a very good read for those who are preparing for cross-cultural ministry, and for students in cultural anthropology and intercultural studies. Edmund Melig Industan resides in Pasadena, California. He has an MA in education and a Ph.D. in sociology. His paper, The Socio-cultural Changes among the Ata Manobos, was presented at the XV World Congress of Sociology in Brisbane, Australia in 2002. While with the Ata Manobos, he trained several literacy graduates as lay teachers, besides teaching literacy to children and adults. His translated songs were published and recorded by the Overseas Missionary Fellowship, Philippines. He taught college and graduate students in Philippines, migrated to USA in 1993 and taught middle school in Southwest Texas, and have worked as a chancellor's assistant and a director of education in southern California. He is a member of Lake Avenue Church, the Poetry Society of America, The American Sociological Association, and the International Sociological Association. Currently, he is writing, The Joy and Pain in Cross-cultural Care-giving.
