Lyne Curry is a freelance writer. They collaborate in this book to demonstrate to those just entering business life just what qualities are needed to make a successful career. They interview 12 of the UK's best known personalities from the media, business and sporting worlds to discover the secrets of their success. Their subjects include Sebastian Coe, Ken Bates, Roger Black, Raymond Blanc, Sir Chay Blythe, Tony Bullimore, Harvey Goldsmith, Nicola Horlick, Michael Parkinson, Tony Robinson, Robin Smith and Michael Lynagh. The first chapter is devoted to a brief description of the career of each of their successful people. In the rest of the book the authors pick out those qualities that made these people rich and famous. First and foremost they put enthusiasm; no one did well with a laid back attitude. Then they quote from their interviews to demonstrate that they also needed encouragement from the right family background, a willingness to learn, and the ability to foster the team spirit in others. They admit that a certain amount of luck also plays a part, being in the right place at the right time. In the case of athletes having the right build is essential in many sports, and the determination to achieve peak condition and stay that way is not always easy, but essential for success. Even the occasional disaster builds character! If you have just left university of have just been picked for the local football team, and are determined to make a successful career, you can learn a lot from this book; it was written for you! A frequent commentator and columnist in his field, he has collaborated with the BBC in an interview training video and runs interview technique courses for a number of the UK's leading companies. Lynne Curry is an experienced freelance writer and journalist.
