4 star rating by Boomert - Nanda the Naughty Gnome by Tiffany Mandrake 13 Jan 2010
Nanda the Naughty Gnome is the latest book in the ‘Little Horrors’ series and is a charming story about a little gnome who’s invited to enrol in a school for bad fairies but wants to be good instead. Nanda longs to be a fairy princess and will go to amazing lengths to defy her nature and become one. When Nanda offers to run an errand to deliver some polished quartz to Willow Gracecloud her journey begins and with a mischievous fox-fae as her companion, things go from bad to worse. The story is told with humour and warmth and the reader cannot help but feel some affection for little Nanda as she tries to defy her nature and become a fairy princess. The illustrations compliment the narrative and provide the younger reader with great interest, punctuating the text at well-spaced intervals. Nanda the Naughty Gnome is a refreshing antidote to the multitude of younger reader books about fairies and the fantastic world. The book will do well in both educational and retail settings and would encourage even the most reluctant reader of age six plus.
