Nanoplasmonics by Satoshi Kawata

Book Description

This second volume in the "Handai Nanophotonics" book series covers the area of Nanoplasmonics, a recent hot topic in the field of nanophotonics, impacting a diverse range of research disciplines from information technology and nanotechnology to the bio- and medical sciences. The interaction between photons and metal nanostructures leads to interesting and extraordinary scientific phenomena and produces new functions for nano materials and devices. Newly discovered physical phenomena include local mode of surface plasmon polariton excited in nanoparticles, hot spots on nano-rods and nano-cones, long range mode of surface plasmons excited on thin metal films, and dispersion relationship bandgaps of surface plasmons in periodic metal structures. These have been applied to, for example, single molecule detection and nano-imaging/spectroscopy, photon accumulation for lasing applications, optical nano-waveguides and nano-circuits. This is an interdisciplinary research text on the application of nanoplasmonics research and effects in devices for applications. It bridges the gap between conventional photophysics & photochemistry and nanoscience, continuing the series that focuses on 'hot' areas of photochemistry, optics, material science and bioscience.

Books By Author Satoshi Kawata

Nano Biophotonics by Satoshi Kawata Nano Biophotonics, Hardback (February 2007)

Presents the proceedings of the 3rd International Nanophotonics Symposium, July 6-8, 2006, Icho-Kaikan, Osaka University, Osaka, Japan. This work includes chapters which are classified into 4 parts; nano bio-spectroscopy, nano bio-dynamics, and others. It bridges the gap between conventional photophysics and photochemistry and nanoscience.

Nanophotonics with Surface Plasmons by Satoshi Kawata Nanophotonics with Surface Plasmons, Hardback (December 2006)

Describes how one can fully integrate plasmonic nanostructures into dielectric, semiconductor, and molecular photonic devices, for guiding photons across the nano-micro interface and for detecting molecules with unsurpassed sensitivity. This book also covers nanophotonics and nanoplasmonics, and metamaterials and negative-index materials.

Tip Enhancement by Satoshi Kawata Tip Enhancement, Hardback (November 2006)

Discusses the advances in the area of near-field Raman scattering, focusing on tip-enhanced and surface-enhanced Raman scattering. This work covers such features as: the optical structuring and manipulations, single molecule sensitivity, analysis of single-walled carbon nanotubes, and analytic applications in chemistry, and material sciences.

Near-infrared Spectroscopy by Satoshi Kawata Near-infrared Spectroscopy, Hardback (January 2002)

Aimed at those who want to learn the basics of NIR spectroscopy and its applications. This book is useful for both spectroscopists and scientists wanting to use NIR spectroscopy as a method of analysis.
