Penguin Book of Renaissance Verse by David Norbrook
Book DescriptionThe era between the accession of Henry VIII and the crisis of the English republic in 1659 formed one of the most fertile epochs in world literature. This anthology offers a broad selection of its poetry, and includes a wide range of works by the great poets of the age - notably Sir Philip Sidney, Edmund Sepnser, John Donne, William Shakespeare and John Milton. Poems by less well-known writers also feature prominently - among them significant female poets such as Lady Mary Wroth and Katherine Philips. Compelling and exhilarating, this landmark collection illuminates a time of astonishing innovation, imagination and diversity.

Lucretius and the Early Modern, Hardback (October 2015)
This collection of essays presents a series of case studies which demonstrates the sophisticated ways in which different readers across the world have approached and interpreted Lucretius' remarkable poem De rerum natura over the centuries, from Lucretius' contemporary audience to the European Enlightenment.
Works of Lucy Hutchinson, Paperback (December 2011)
Volume I in a four-volume edition of the writings of Lucy Hutchinson, which have never before been published in a collected edition. Hutchinson's translation of Lucretius's classical epic De rerum natura is provided alongside the Latin text she used. The detailed commentary and full introduction illuminate the translation and its contexts.
Poetry and Politics in the English Renaissance, Paperback (September 2002)
Renaissance English poetry was closely involved with affairs of state: some poets held high office, others wrote to influence those in power and to sway an increasingly independent public opinion. In this revised edition, Norbrook offers an account of the issues that engaged the passions of such leading figures as Sir Philip Sidney and John Milton.
Order and Disorder, Paperback (January 2001)» View all books by David Norbrook
Order and Disorder, the first epic poem by an Englishwoman, has never before been available in its entirety. The first five cantos were printed anonymously in 1679, but fifteen further cantos remained in manuscript, probably because they were so politically sensitive.
