Procurement of International Incubation Programs by Hanadi Al-Mubaraki
Book DescriptionIncubation programs are a dynamic process of developing emerging commercial entities. Incubators nurture young firms, helping them to survive and grow during the startup period when they are most vulnerable to failure. Incubators provide hands-on management assistance, access to financing, and orchestrated exposure to critical business or technical support services. They also offer entrepreneurial firms shared office services, access to equipment and expandable space. Business incubators can play an active role in local, regional and national economic development efforts. A business incubator, however, cannot transform an economy and must be integrated into broader economic policy reform, infrastructure investment and financing. When approaching a new incubator project the development team must first understand and formulate the economic purpose or mission of the incubator to achieve the desired return on the resources invested in the program. Developing countries such as GCC (Gulf Cooperative Countries) and Kuwait need to implement the new technology ideas to advance their knowledge through the use of international incubation programs. The needs of GCC, Kuwait City or other developing countries to develop the local economic, technology transfer and the creation of new enterprises in the development of jobs, are met by reviewing the experiences of other international countries by using their case studies. Those case studies analyse common sets of issues in the experiences of incubator programs. The assessment of international incubation programs in different countries will aid the GCC Government to become familiar with business development and the policy of implementation of the incubation programs. The problem will be for GCC, Kuwait or other developing countries to learn of and accept incubation programs as the new blueprint for start-up enterprises. In-depth studies are required to understand the management and operational devices that can be implemented based on the relevant experience of a given international country. More technical studies of incubators will be qualitative and descriptive. This book presents quantitive and qualitative approaches, adding detail to the body of information already available about incubation, increasing the data needed by professionals in making the complex, potentially expensive decisions surrounding incubation program support, policies and models. Essentially, if GCC, Kuwait or other developing countries choose to implement incubation programs, this book will provide helpful guidelines for governments, companies, universities and researchers.
