Roni Horn by Roni Horn

Book Description

"Bird" presents the culmination of Roni Horns long-running photographic series of taxidermied Icelandic wildfowl. Photographed at close range against white backgrounds (as though obeying the conventional format of studio portraiture) the birds are viewed from behind, their unique physiognomies and markings resulting in inscrutable shapes and patterns on the photographs surfaces. Despite the singular form of the title, the birds in this series are presented in pairs, images that are hung side by side one another highlighting the differences and similarities between the two.The gesture of doubling as an aesthetic and conceptual strategy has been a recurrent motif for Horn since 1980, a tool that invites careful scrutiny from the viewer, altering the dynamic of the work. Horns images are accompanied by a text by the writer and curator Philip Larratt-Smith. Avoiding a dense, didactic reading of the series, Larratt-Smith has compiled an extended series of quotes, anecdotes and idioms, garnered from film, literature, photographers monographs and Horns own writings.

Roni Horn: Remembered Words by Roni Horn Roni Horn: Remembered Words, Hardback (November 2016)

The combination of the dots - which are sometimes properly arranged in color-coordinated rows, on other drawings random and overlapping, wild and out of control - with the words creates unexpected relations and meanings, endless strings of associations, absurd and beautiful at the same time.

Roni Horn by Roni Horn Roni Horn, Hardback (July 2016)

Roni Horn's (born 1955) "The Selected Gifts, 1974-2015" is a collection of photographs documenting the history of gifts received over the course of the artist's life. Collected together in this book they constitute a kind of self-portrait through objects.

Hack Wit by Roni Horn Hack Wit, Hardback (July 2015)

Focuses on a playful and complex body of work developed between 2013 and 2015, using cliches or proverbs and watercolor. For each work, the artist made two watercolors of a different proverb, cut them apart and then combined them into one. This book book concentrates on artists work style.
