Sentimental Education of the Novel by Margaret Cohen Sentimental Education of the Novel, Paperback (January 2002)

This book argues that to understand how literary codes respond to material factors, it is imperative to see how such factors take shape within the literary field and the society.

Literary Channel by Margaret Cohen Literary Channel, Paperback (December 2001)

Defines a transnational literary "zone" that shaped the development of the modern novel. This book rethinks the genre's evolution as marking the power and limits of modern cultural nationalism. It is suitable for readers interested in the novel's development, British and French cultural history, and extra-national patterns of cultural exchange.
