Spanish American Revolutions 1808-1826 by John Lynch

Book Description

John Lynch provides a brilliant survey of the men and the movements during these critical years. He views the revolutionary outbreak as the culmination of a long process of alienation from Spain during which Spanish Americans became aware of their own identity, conscious of their own culture, and jealous of their own resources. He traces the forces of independence as they gathered momentum and spread across the subcontinent in two great waves converging on Peru. He also explains why the heroic liberators, among them San Martin, Bolivar, and O'Higgins, were unable to prevent the revolutions from ultimately turning into counterrevolutions that frustrated their efforts to create new societies. In the second edition, Lynch adds a section on Central America and incorporates the latest work being done on the origins and aftermaths of these revolutions.

Sad Tales from Denmark by John Lynch Sad Tales from Denmark, Paperback (March 2015)

These are some of the stories told with sympathy and realism by Henrik Pontoppidan (1857-1943) and translated into English by John Lynch. Pontoppidan is hardly known in Britain, but is famous in his native Denmark as a realist writer of fiction and the winner in 1917 (jointly with Karl Gjellerup) of the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Sharon Wright: Butterfly by John Lynch Sharon Wright: Butterfly, Paperback (November 2014)

No-one gives Sharon a chance. Except Sharon. All she wants is a better life-a husband who takes care of her, the kind of food they have in magazines and civilized conversation. Is it her fault that she is in the middle of a plot involving two hitmen? Well, yes, actually. It is.
