Does Duck dazzle as much as the peacock? Does he dawdle like the tortoise, or does he dash like the hare? No? Well, what does Duck do? Does Duck ... dare? A gorgeous new story from the author of TELL ME SOMETHING HAPPY BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP and the illustrator of DADDY IS MY HERO.
UK Kirkus Review » This is a charming jewel of a book for the very young. Not only is there a comforting bedtime story in a slim pouched volume but hidden inside the fat pretend-book with its little lock is a furry beanie toy asleep in bed. Everything about this package of book and toy is high quality, from the appealing violet fold-away cover to the pull-out book in its sheath and the sweet lop-eared bunny with furry ears. This is a child's equivalent of comfort food, and it will be the favourite book of the year for the very young. The soothing 'count your blessings' little story told to Willa the bear by her brother Willoughby has beautiful and evocative illustrations. Adults will smile at the subtle tale which deals with every child's reluctance and fear of going to sleep. This is a book to treasure. Ages 2-4 (Kirkus UK)
US Kirkus Review » All young rabbits should have a brother like Willoughby in their upper bunks when the fear of bad dreams lurks. Willoughby counsels little Willa, who is having trouble nodding off, to "think of something happy, then you won't have a bad dream." Perhaps her chicken slippers are marking time for her morning feet, and her robe is longing for her to slip inside come morning. Then Willoughby takes her on a tour of the warren - the breakfast to come, the toys to play with the next day, a look out the window at the night waiting upon the dawn - all anxious for Willa's morning appearance. Lastly there is that bear in bed: "'What do you think he is doing?" asked Willoughby. 'Waiting for me to snuggle up with him,' said Willa.'" And sleep comes. What's so pleasing is the presence of an ordinary brother, doing the right thing. An unsentimental, satisfying book for siblings to share. (Kirkus Reviews)
