It was once home to the March family - fascinating, manipulative Isabelle, brutal, dangerous Charlie, and the wild, untamed twins, Emmeline and Adeline. But Angelfield House hides a chilling secret which strikes at the very heart of each of them, tearing their lives apart...Now Margaret Lea is investigating Angelfield's past - and the mystery of the March family starts to unravel. What has Angelfield been hiding? What is its connection with the enigmatic writer Vida Winter? And what is the secret that strikes at the heart of Margaret's own, troubled life? As Margaret digs deeper, two parallel stories unfold, and the tale she uncovers sheds a disturbing light on her own life...

Written in a similar style to Kate Morton’s novels, Diane Setterfield's debut novel “The Thirteenth Tale” is one of mystery, suspense and intrigue.

Summoned by the highly acclaimed author Vida Winter to write her autobiography, Kate Lea is drawn into the world of Angelfield House, once the home of the March twins, Adeline and Emmeline March.

Angelfield House is now in ruins, inhabited only by the ghosts of the past and the secrets it holds.

Why was Kate Lea bidden to Vida Winter to write her autobiography? What is Miss Winter’s connection to Angelfield House and the March twins? What is the terrible secret that is held within the shell of Angelfield House?

Whilst reading the book there are many times when you think you have worked out the ending, however, at every turn of the page you are thrown into a new direction which keeps you guessing.
