Tiny Seed by Eric Carle
Book DescriptionA classic picture book by Eric Carle - The Tiny Seed. When the tiny seed is blown away from its parent plant, it travels a very long way - over seas, deserts and mountains. The tiny seed survives the hazards of the journey and finally falls onto fertile earth. It grows and grows, becoming the tallest, biggest flower for miles around. Then one day the wind blows and thousands of the flower's seeds begin their own journeys. Eric Carle is an internationally bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator of books for very young children. Eric lives in Massachusetts with his wife, Barbara. The Carles opened The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Massachusetts in 2002. "Ducks growing out of bananas? A mouse catching a cat? What's wrong with this book? Yes, there's something strange, something funny, and even downright preposterous on every page of this book. But it's not a mistake--it's nonsense! And it's also surrealism"--
Soul of Central New York, Hardback (November 2016)

UK Kirkus Review » Beautiful and simple. The Tiny Seed introduces young children to one of nature's most enduring life cycles. We follow the tiny seed through its initial survival after a breeze carries it away from its mother plant on a journey across fields, mountains and even the sea! Reflecting the cyclical nature of the seeds life we finish the tale when the tiny seed has grown and has tiny seeds of her own. (Ages 2 -4 years) (Kirkus UK)
US Kirkus Review » The unnatural history of a seed smaller than the others ("Will it be able to keep up. . . ?") that sails on while one, flying too high, is burned up by the sun (flames, yet) and a second "falls into the water and drowns." Once landed, the little seed's luck holds: it is invisible to the bird that eats another seed (though not to us), ditto the mouse wintering under the ground, and though it's a late-bloomer ("Hurry!") it doesn't stop growing until it overtops houses and trees to become "a giant flower." Comes fall it scatters its seeds to the wind, starting the cyclorama again. So scaled, the illustrations are gross in either sense of the word. (Kirkus Reviews)
