Nonsense Show, Hardback (January 2017)
"Ducks growing out of bananas? A mouse catching a cat? What's wrong with this book? Yes, there's something strange, something funny, and even downright preposterous on every page of this book. But it's not a mistake--it's nonsense! And it's also surrealism"--
Soul of Central New York, Hardback (November 2016)

During his long career as a writer for the Syracuse Post-Standard, Kirst won some of the most prestigious honours in journalism, including the Ernie Pyle Award, given annually to one American writer who best captures the hopes and dreams of everyday Americans.

UK Kirkus Review » Every child should experience this wonderful, cumulative story, with its brightly coloured pictures of the tiny but greedy caterpillar that eats his way through one apple, two plums and three pears before turning into a beautiful butterfly. The board version stands up well to the inevitable poking of little fingers through the holes in the pages. (2-4 yrs) (Kirkus UK)

Book Review: Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle - Reviewed by Sheepcoate (27 Jun 2011)
This has got to be a must read for any young child.
My son received this book board book as a present when he was born. Even though we have read it to him hundreds of times, he still reads it very great fascination and interest.
Eric Carle designed The Very Hungry Caterpillar brilliantly. Large colorful pictures, with interactive little holes which allows your small child to poke their tiny fingers through the holes.
My only complaint would be that there is not a vegetarian version of this book.
I would probably recommend that board book version, as ours has stood the harsh baby and toddler abuse and is still as good as new.
Book Review: Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle - Reviewed by rachthevego (09 Jun 2011)
This was and still is my very favourite childhood book.
Eric Carle's fiddling around with a hole punch (by his own admission) has provided children the world over with a beautiful and interactive story.
My toddler enjoys the pictures and poking his fingers through the holes while he identifies the various foods the caterpillar works his way through on his eating frenzy.
Even though I know the book by heart (having read it often several times a day to my toddler), it still doesn't get old. This is one book I would recommend to every parent and is certainly one I buy for new parents!
