Warfare and Society in Europe by Michael S. Neiberg

Book Description

Warfare and Society in Europe, 1898 to the Present examines warfare in Europe from the Fashoda conflict in modern-day Sudan to the recent war in Iraq. The twentieth century was by far the world's most destructive century with two global wars marking the first half of the century and the constant fear of nuclear annihilation haunting the second half. Throughout, this book treats warfare as a function of larger political, cultural, social and economic issues and includes discussion of: * the alliances that led to the outbreak of the First World War * the First World War * the Second World War * the increasing role played by the United States in Europe's twentieth century wars * Eastern European wars such as the Russian Civil War and the Greco-Turkish war * new technologies and weapons. Combining a traditional survey of military history with a survey of social issues, Michael S. Neiberg both examines how social changes have impacted the nature of war fighting and how war has shaped the basic patterns of European society.

Path to War by Michael S. Neiberg Path to War, Hardback (November 2016)

In 1914 the country was firmly determined to stay clear of Europe's war. By 1917, it was ready to jump into the fray. What happened in between? Acclaimed historian Michael S. Neiberg examines America's entry into World War One, shedding light on the dilemmas and crises the country faced from 1914 to 1917.

Dance of the Furies by Michael S. Neiberg Dance of the Furies, Paperback (October 2013)

Looking beyond diplomats and generals, the author shows that neither nationalist passions nor desires for revenge took Europe to war in 1914. He gives voice to a generation who suddenly found themselves compelled to participate in a ghastly, protracted orgy of violence they never imagined would come to pass.

Blood of Free Men by Michael S. Neiberg Blood of Free Men, Hardback (October 2012)

Looks at the drama surrounding the Liberation of Paris in 1944, as the Allies struggled to reclaim Europe, Hitler plotted it's destruction, and a handful of conspirators strove to save the City of Lights. This book shows how a host of brave fighters, commanders, and officials saved the city and, in the process, shaped the outcome of World War II.
