In 1915, the biggest plane ever seen in Britain, the Handley Page Type 0, took flight for the first time, a twin engine monster with a 100 foot wingspan, designed to be a 'bloody paralyser' to the Germans. The men that flew in the bloody paralysers were the forerunners of the crews of Bomber Command in World War 2. This title tells their stories.

UK Kirkus Review » The ancient world looked to the Greeks for culture and civilisation, but feared those same Greeks for their fanatical love of war. What history has not told us to the same degree is how the Greeks prepared for war - what weapons they used, what means of defence, what innovations they introduced that were still to be influencing warfare 1000 and more years later. In this first major study of ancient Greek warfare for more than 35 years, historian Everson draws on a wealth of resources to show what sort of weapons and tactics the Greeks used to their advantage in the period from 1550BC to 150BC. Archaeology and art have their place in bringing us this information, as do the writings of such luminaries as Homer and Herodotus. Everson has compiled a highly readable book on ancient warfare that answers the age-old question: What was it really like to fight at the time of Alexander the Great? (Kirkus UK)
