The Trinity is supposed to be the central, foundational doctrine of our entire Christian belief system, yet we're often told that we shouldn't attempt to understand it because it is a 'mystery'. Only people who have suffered in some way can save one another. Deep communion and deep compassion are formed much more by shared pain than by shared pleasure.
