Wittgenstein by Ludwig Wittgenstein
Book DescriptionIn 1938 Wittgenstein delivered a short course of lectures on aesthetics to a small group of students at Cambridge. The present volume has been compiled from notes taken down at the time by three of the students: Rush Rhees, Yorick Smythies, and James Taylor. They have been supplemented by notes of conversations on Freud (to whom reference was made in the course on aesthetics) between Wittgenstein and Rush Rhees, and by notes of some lectures on religious belief. As very little is known of Wittgenstein's views on these subjects from his published works, these notes should be of considerable interest to students of contemporary philosophy. Further, their fresh and informal style should recommend Wittgenstein to those who find his Tractatus and Philosophical Investigations a little formidable.

Books By Author Ludwig Wittgenstein
Mythology in Our Language, Paperback (February 2017)
In 1931 Ludwig Wittgenstein wrote his famous Remarks on Frazer's "Golden Bough," published posthumously in 1967. At that time, anthropology and philosophy were in close contact - thinkers drew heavily on anthropology's theoretical terms, in order to help them explore the limits of human belief and imagination. This is a translation of his work.
Lecture on Ethics, Hardback (August 2014)
The most complete edition yet published of Wittgenstein s 1929 lecture includes a never-before published first draft and makes fresh claims for its significance in Wittgenstein s oeuvre.
Big Typescript, Paperback (October 2012)» View all books by Ludwig Wittgenstein
Long awaited by the scholarly community, Wittgenstein s so-called Big Typescript (von Wright Catalog no. TS 213) is presented here for the first time in an en-face German English scholars edition, complete with clear indications to help the reader identify the various levels of Wittgenstein s editing.
