Melbourne author Harry Nicolaides has been arrested in Bangkok for the crime of 'lese majeste'--offences against the crown.
It is understood the charge is based on passages from the author's self-published novel Verisimilitude.
The writer was visiting his girlfriend who works in Thailand, The Agereported on 4 September, and was arrested at the airport when attempting to fly home.
Nicolaides was reportedly unaware of the warrant for his arrest, which had been issued in March. He has been refused bail and faces up to 15 years in jail. Police say he is to be interviewed further in coming days.
