Fourteen children's authors, including J K Rowling, Michael Morpugo, Judy Blume and R L Stein, have written an open letter calling for politicians to ‘act on Darfur.'

The letter, which appeared in UK papers on 12 April it was time to ‘change the narrative' in the region of Sudan where more than 200,000 people, including children, have died in the region's civil war since 2003, according to the United Nations, with 2 million people displaced as a result of the conflict.

‘The world needs to wake up. For too long it has let these children suffer. Out politicians need to act on Darfur,' said the letter, which called for an immediate ceasefire and full deployment of a UN peacekeeping force.
