The shortlist for the 2008 Australian Science Fiction Awards (also known as the Ditmars) has been announced. In the running for best novel are:

• The Company of the Dead (David Kowalski, PanMacmillan)
• Extras (Scott Westerfeld, Simon & Schuster)
• Dark Space (Marianne de Pierres, Orbit)
• Saturn Returns (Sean Williams, Orbit)
• Magic's Child (Justine Larbelestier, Penguin)
• The Darkness Within (Jason Nahrung, Hachette Livre)

Winners will be announced at Swancon 33, the national Australian science fiction convention, to be held in Perth on 20-24 March.
