The winners of the 2008 Kibble and Dobbie Awards were announced last night at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Sydney.

First-time novelist Carol Lefevre took out the Kibble Award for Nights in the Asylum (Vintage). The $20,000 Kibble Award was established by NSW librarian Nita May Dobbie 14 years ago to recognise achievements in women's literature.

The 2008 Dobbie Encouragement Award for first published work was presented to Karen Foxlee for The Anatomy of Wings (UQP).
