LIANZA award winners announced

The winners of the LIANZA (Library and Information Association New Zealand Aotearoa) awards for 2008 have been announced.

The winners of the LIANZA (Library and Information Association New Zealand Aotearoa) awards for 2008 have been announced.

The Russell Clarke Award for distinguished contribution to illustrated children's books went to Gavin Bishop for Rats (Random House); the Esther Glen Award for an author considered to have made the most distinguished contribution to literature for children went to Wellington writer and teacher Mandy Hager for her YA title Smashed (Random House); and the Elsie Lock Award for a distinguished contribution for nonfiction for young people went to Heather Arnold for Draw New Zealand Birds; A Step by Step Guide (Raupo).

The Te Kura Pounamu, an award that celebrates a work in te reo Maori, was presented to the ‘Kai Ora! 2:  Tikanga a Iwi' series (Hana Ltd) by Kararaina Uatuku, Hana Pomare, Charisma Rangipunga, Hana O'Regan and Che Wilson.  The judges said the series was ‘unique with nothing else available on the topics in Māori or English'.
