Prize money doubled at NSW Premier's Literary Awards

Total prize money across the 11 award categories in the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards has been doubled to $290,000

Published 23 May, 2008

Total prize money across the 11 award categories in the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards has been doubled to $290,000, the state’s arts minister announced at the awards on Monday night.

‘It is appropriate that the first Premier's Literary Awards to be initiated by a state government in Australia should be the richest and most prestigious,’ said Frank Sartor at the 2008 awards ceremony.

‘The Government's support for these awards reflects its belief in the importance of writing.’

The increase in prize money puts the NSW awards ahead of the Queensland Premier's Literary Awards which had been the richest, with a total prize pool of $225,000 over 14 categories.

It also follows the recent increase to the prize money for the Western Australian Premier's Award, now worth $110,000.© Copyright 2008, Thorpe-Bowker
