US-related nonfiction had a quite a presence in the media this week. Most of us know Martin Amis for his many works of fiction, but it was his latest book of nonfiction that received a few mentions in national media over the weekend. The Second Plane: September 11, 2001-2007 is a collection of Amis' many essays and stories on the subject, as well as further accounts of his travels in Iraq with Britain's ex-PM, Tony Blair. Don Watson-- once Paul Keating's speech writer--has turned his hand to travel writing. American Journeys is an account of Watson's experience of the USA and his impressions of the nation's greatness along with its flaws.
