The Trout Opera -- Matthew Condon's new novel -- was ten years in the making before it made it to bookstores earlier this month. It's an epic Australian story that takes place on the banks of the Snowy River in 1906 and takes us right through to the Sydney 2000 Olympics. The time frame is actually the space of the protagonist's life who has never, until now, left his birthplace.
