The winners of this year's Le Cordon Bleu World Food Media Awards were announced last week in Adelaide as part of the annual Tasting Australia festival.
Among the winners of ‘gold ladles' were UK-based Australian chef Skye Gyngell for best food book with A Year in My Kitchen (Quadrille), Stephanie Alexander was a joint winner of the best children's food book with Kitchen Garden Cooking with Kids (Penguin) and James Halliday won best wine book for James Halliday's Wine Atlas of Australia (Hardie Grant).
Winners were selected by an international panel of 80 jurors from a field of more than 600 entries, predominantly coming from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Belgium and Australia. Commenting on the competition, jury chairman Ian Parmenter said: ‘This is the tenth year of competition, which has seen more than 4000 entries. We're delighted that once again the standard of entries was extremely high.'
In addition to Le Cordon Bleu gold ladles, two individuals, well known to the food and drink industry, were honoured for their outstanding achievements in the industry. British chef, restaurateur, TV presenter and writer Rick Stein was inducted into the Tasting Australia International Hall of Fame, while UK-born Australian cheese guru, writer and TV presenter Will Studd was the Australian inductee.
