Come on Everybody, Time to Play! (Nigel Grey, illus. by Bob Graham, Walker Books, $19.95 hb, ISBN 9781921150500, July) ****
Imagine waking up on a Sunday morning before everybody else. Has this happened to you? Where is everybody? You want to play, but your playmates don’t seem to be awake. Where will you find them? Under the flaps (of this book), of course. It’s good fun to lift the flaps to find someone to play with. There are kittens, puppies, little brothers, mum and dad. You will also love saying the rhymes out loud and the pictures will certainly make you laugh. It is a playful and funny book you can read with grown-ups or play with by yourself. This is a charming open-the-flap book for very young readers. Nigel Gray's rollicking rhythmic rhymes beg to be read aloud and children will love to repeat them. I can hear them bouncing on grown-up knees as I read this delightful book. Bob Graham’s illustrations are filled with bouncy, amusing characters, bold colours and (oh joy) a house that is not completely tidy!
