Peka-Boo, the Smallest Bird in All the World by Eliza Feely
The language is as colourful as the illustrations, filled with wonderful ‘ridgey-didge’ Australian expressions and there is much fun and laughter to be had in sharing this book.
The language is as colourful as the illustrations, filled with wonderful ‘ridgey-didge’ Australian expressions and there is much fun and laughter to be had in sharing this book. Each page is eye-catching with most of the text layered through the scenes. Simple but effective, the sketches clearly convey the actions; but to ensure no doubt, they are peppered with labels and hilarious ad-libs. Join in the merriment as young Peka-Boo frolics with his family or spends time with his ‘kind-of relative’, Kopecki. Rediscover the world through fresh eyes as Peka-Boo takes pleasure in his surroundings. Inquisitive and friendly, optimistic and upbeat, Peka-Boo is a delight, and true to the baby magpies who have graced my garden. This book has a timeless feel to it, worthy of joining the likes of Wombat Stew, Olga The Brolga and Possum Magic in the classic picture book collection. A wonderful picture book for all ages; destined to be enjoyed by both the young, and the young at heart. Storytime will never be more of a pleasure when you share the smiles with this treat. Eliza Feely has delivered on her dedication, which is to everybody who loves a laugh.
